Boredom. I started blogging because I was bored.
I remember laughing at the notion that more than fourteen people would ever read a single thing I wrote.
I was stunned that anyone chose to read my words.
I still am.
(Or, maybe ‘stunned’ is part of my perpetual personality disorder……..)
Anyway.
The relationships I’ve made and the friends I’ve forged through this space have changed my life. I love reading your comments, because of the things you reveal about YOU.
Your families.
Your insecurities.
Your humor.
Your experiences.
Your unique take on whatever drivel I post on a particular day.

Fiona has two lovely daughters, and one of them is her made over. I have enjoyed following their adventures. Her husband is a fan of the Spurs. I’ve always assumed that to be football (soccer), but I’ve never been sure.
And then there is Jake. The dog. I love Jake.
She is spunky, even though she doesn’t think so. Since I have known her, she has gone from being the victim of a rare disease to an outspoken advocate for people whose suffering has largely been ignored, all while battling her own demons. When she was invited to the Ireland rare disease conference in Dublin, I cheered at her commentary when she addressed the group. I think she stole my glasses for that video. 🙂
San Antonio Texas Spurs? Great basketball team. Has some older, tried-n-true starters (like Tim Duncan) which is inspiring for middle-aged slack-jaws, like me. 😉

We first met (May 2010) when you stayed with us during a Rotary visit to District 1070 (the east of England just above Cambridge).
I could never remember your name; i kept calling you ‘Andrea’??
My initial thought was that you travelled light (one holdall for 5 weeks stay).
My next was that you enjoyed blogging and you introduced me to a very good brand of Gin.
You enjoyed our visit to Crowland and your negotiations with the Pizza shop!!
You enjoyed our garden and loved Alfie.
We introduced you to Clive and Sue.
We enjoyed your wit and humour; you listened well (especially to Pete!!).
You and Alison were superb waitresses for our farewell evening.
You and MTM visited us for a long weekend (??? miles) over Thanksgiving (2011) and brought with you Grits!!
We introduced you both to English Pantomime and you both became part of the show.
We keep saying we will visit S.C some day and we will as we know so much about the place through your informative Bloggs.

So, I’m neiher a blogger, a writer, nor a regular commenter. More like a voyeur, I suppose. I read Andra’s blog and the reader comments every morning with coffee.
I live in Mount Pleasant, SC and unlike most of you, Andra and I live close, separated by the Cooper River. We We met through Rotary, see each other on a regular basis, and have traveled to England, Sao Paulo, and Buenos Aires together. Oh, and we share the same home town.
I love the community that has been created from this site and thank you all for letting me read with no obligation to comment!
Alan, I can’t believe that trip was almost three years ago. I’m still trying to lose a few of the remaining pounds I gained after you introduced me to Aspall’s Cyder. Thank God I cannot find that stuff over here.
Alan is married to Margaret, and they have a daughter who was in the RAF at the time of our visit. (Is she still?) They live outside of Peterborough in a town called Thorney. There’s a Norman abbey there, and I turned my ankle in that sanctuary the very first day of our visit. I’m still in awe that he did some engineering on Burghley House.
You forgot to mention that everyone thought Alison and I were a lesbian couple and never knew whether to put us in the same bedroom or separate ones.
That Rotary trip produced many English friends. I still keep in touch with so many of them.
Alison and I have the same accent, so if you’ve ever heard me talk, you know what she sounds like. After being gone from Florence for more than two decades, it still amazes me that people can pick the sound out.
We never knew each other in our hometown, but I’m glad Rotary introduced us. Alison’s mission on our trip to England was to try as many English ales as possible. She kept track of them in a little book and compared them like a connoisseur.
I like fun – a lot! I’m sharing a sheep on my blog … 🙂 Funny story. I smile when I read it too. Perhaps the sheep muse wrote it. Should one laugh at your own words? Hi, my name is Robert and I am a blogger. It has been 851 days since I did not blog. (Hi Robert!)
Somedays I think I am a decent amateur photographer. Most days I think I am not. Yet I publish at least one picture daily and some people look at them!
I had the rare privilege over the past two days of having two respected professionals look over a set of my photographs. They both focused in on 3 or 4 of the same pictures. One thought they were the best pictures in my set, that they revealed my soul. The other thought they were framed well but flat and rather dull.
My blog today will be showing those pictures. I hope to have them up in about 12 hours.

Robert is married to Katherine and has a teenage daughter named Abigail, though I believe she prefers ‘Abby G’. They live near NYU in Manhattan. He has a subversive theater background and knows how to run a big hotel better than anyone else I know. He says he’s from Boston originally, though I’ve never picked up that undercurrent in his voice when we’ve met. 🙂 We both look forward to seeing him when we visit the city. When MTM is talkative, it means he really connects with someone. He’s always really talkative around Robert.
Hello Everyone! I love the idea of meeting you all here, and for those of you who have blogs I hope to wander over at some point. I for one am glad I “clicked the cootchie” as I feel like I’ve met a kindred spirit through her blog, even though we haven’t met in person. (Still hoping that would happen). Good Morning! My name is Lori…don’t know what else to say about myself, except to say that when I read Andra’s blog it affects me…sometimes it keys into memories…sometimes it keys into emotions that have been hiding, or elusive…but most times she makes me smile and giggle. I come to Andra’s blog because of the connection…it’s kind of strange to have a connection with someone that you’ve never met physically (or so I’ve been told), but I feel a connection and I enjoy reading the comments that she makes as well as those that read her blog. Andra makes a difference in my life and I really enjoy her blog…she has also introduced me to several other bloggers and I’ve truly enjoyed getting to “know” them also. Not sure what all that says about me. 🙂
Lori lives in Idaho. I’ve never met her, but I feel like she is one of my dearest friends. I love her fearlessness with her hair, her love of the outdoors, and her take-no-prisoners brand of hiking. She loves Mike and her children, and whether she thinks so or not, she got everything right.

Jessie is a tenacious mom. Even when she is despairing, she shows her kids how to be excellent people.

I am not a blogger, but, I love to read a few and comment occasionally. I know Andra through Rotary and she has become a really good friend, exactly the same in person as she is online. The most fun is to watch her get into her “story-telling” mode with the strange looks, inflections and eyes popping out when she tells Roy Boy stories.
As far as info about me, married to the Lovely Miss TK, a recent grandfather, and pretty boring 99.9% of the time. Oh yeah, like Cheryl, a committed wine drinker, definitely not a connoisseur although committed to the thought that volume will result in expertise.
Lou failed to mention that he is the incoming District Governor for Eastern South Carolina Rotary Clubs. Given that District 7770 is one of the biggest districts in the world, that’s quite an accomplishment. Lou is known by everyone as Mr Rotary, and I am convinced he will be international President someday.
I hope he will still remember the little people.
Lou is from Ohio and is a rabid Ohio State fan. He also likes Jenni’s Ice Cream, doesn’t eat much red meat, likes to go on cruises and buy things like art and deep diving watches (though he doesn’t dive, he is susceptible to good salespeople). He also loves going out on his boat. He is besotted with the Lovely Miss TK, after almost twenty-six years of marriage. Everyone loves Lou, because he makes others feel important in a genuine way.
Happy May Day! I love blogging parties. I came across ‘Cootchie’s’ blog because Cootchie is my nick name. Really, except that it’s spelled, Cuchi but pronounced the same. I knew I had to meet this Cootchie Mama and boy am I glad I did. She is a definite Brick House. 🙂 I am the mother of two teens who definitely do not consider me to be even close to a cool mom. I embarrass them all the time when I dance in public and when I turn on my heavy spanish accent. My husband is a complete saint (and pretty handsome too) and has been my rock (I mean BOULDER) since I got diagnosed with RA. You will find me dancing 24/7. Can’t wait to meet new friends!

I’m kind of in the middle of taking a break and returning to blogging at the moment, things are up in the air, I’m sporadic, and love playing with words. I like to waffle incessantly, love to read great blogs (of which Andra’s is one, of course!) and feel utterly deflated when I’m away from Blogland. So, I’m currently a sporadically deflated waffler… which doesn’t sound very good actually. I live in Cheshire in the North of England, and love to Feel Good. My blog is a kind of escape from reality, with little tidbits of reality thrown in for good measure. Visitors are always welcome, although first time visitors may have to ring loudly on the doorbell – I will get to you eventually.
I will be posting a new post soon… I will. I will. Until then, though, happy May!

I’m Amber (though frequently called Andra in Tuesday morning Rotary meetings), and I am so excited to have new links to so many blogs. In my 4.7 minutes of free time, I will check them out one by one. I met Andra (and Alison, Lou and Miss TK, and Debbie) through Rotary and am pleased that I now have friendships with them too. Andra came along at a time when I needed a female friend, and I’m grateful to her for that and for letting me/us into her writing.
I’m a small business owner, a good wife, mom to 2 littles, an insomniac, addicted reader of fiction. I don’t watch a lot of TV, but when I do it’s usually shows designed for males 18-25. I am a Formula One and gun enthusiast, infrequently ride a Honda Nighthawk 750. I love popcorn. A lot.
Really? After almost a year of me pounding the gavel at the front of the room, you still get called Andra? I mean, several of the members still butcher my name, but I haven’t been called Amber in a while now………I miss it, actually.

So if you were to spot me walking across the coffee shop you will notice that I have already spilt coffee down my white shirt and tripped over an old ladies walker. I put out my hand to greet you and at that very moment a tampon falls out of purse.

It is from that point on I try very hard to impress you with my carnie stories even though I just failed on so many levels that you may never want to speak with me again.

Kate lives near London with Phil, Maddie, Felix, Clive Bond (cat) and Macaulay (dog). She lives at the edge of an Iron Age fort, loves to give us captivating tours of obscure bits of history, and rides her new bike like a siren. I had the pleasure to meet her and Phil in London in 2011, and I wish we lived closer, largely because I want to take every single tour she goes on. With her. It wouldn’t be the same if I came to England and went alone.
I once made a video of a lizard for her nephew Big Al, who was fascinated by the notion of a lizard living in our toilet. He was four at the time. It’s still one of my all-time favorite posts.

I live in the Southwest. I grew up on a farm/ranch and graduated #2 in a class of 27 from a very small school. In a town that doesn’t have a stop light. After college (Oklahoma State), I moved to China. Shenzhen. Slightly different than a town that only boasts stop signs. It was a wonderful growth experience for a year – I totally found myself in China. I’ve been back in my Southwest US world for about six years now with a house and a job and a fiance and two cats.

I get to meet Debra in person in November, and I am SO excited. I already feel like she is a dear friend from corresponding through our blogs.
Debra takes gorgeous pictures of the California landscape, whether it’s her back yard or urban Los Angeles or jaw-dropping vistas close by. She also digs out obscure bits of California history and weaves stories and causes into her blog. I learn so much when I stop by. She’s a vegetarian and turned me on to a grow-your-own mushroom kit for MTM. I gave it to him for Christmas, and it provided no end of hilarity (and fungi) in our household for close to two months.

Jen, I’m so glad you weighed in with this introduction. I only found your blog recently, and I think it is fascinating to read about life from your perspective. I particularly enjoyed your excitement about being able to read a sign in Hebrew. The only time I’ve ever been somewhere where I couldn’t read anything was in Bangkok. It was a quick visit, but I felt so disoriented the whole time. It has to be so much harder to learn a language that isn’t based in something familiar.

So I’m Richard… I write my blog, The Last Song I Heard, for my son, to tell him about my past and our shared present because I’m going through a divorce and I don’t know how often I’ll get to see him. I want him to know more about me and to record my memories of the things we do together.
I call it The Last Song I Heard because i take my cue from the songs I hear on my iPod… many of these songs remind me of a particular time, person or event in my life… and that’s what inspires me to write my post 🙂

My name is Rachel, otherwise known as LibraryMom (http://librarymom12.wordpress.com/). I am a new reader and I found Andra’s blog after she visited mine and started following it. I think most of her posts are hilarious and she’s a great writer! I lived in South Carolina for 5 years and was married there. I have trained to be a Youth Services Librarian in a Public Library, but have not been able to find work in one, so I’ve been working as a Secretary and other jobs in the meanwhile. I have a 21 month old son. I started blogging in grad school as a creative outlet, something to take my mind off classes and I started my current blog a little over a year ago (just posted my 100th post which I am quite proud of).

Whatever do you mean, Ted? Isn’t my photo still here somewhere? I used to have a rule of no pictures of myself on my blog, unless it was the back of my head. Hence, the one up top.

Love what you have to say Andra. Your thoughts on the importance of having fun is close to my heart. I believe in the power of laughter and that’s what my blogs, “Laugh with Joe” are all about. If my blog can give the reader a smile, a chuckle or a laugh it’s done its job. I’ve been a song writer but never tried any other kind of writing before. i like to say I’m not a real writer, I just play one on the internet. Keep up the good work. If together, we can bring some levity to those out there who are stuck in a continuing state of low self esteem and anxiety maybe we’ve accomplished some good.
